In the last 16 hours...

The boys were in playing on the bed last night, as they like to do on an evening. They were making it up as they went along. Somehow they started asking about what planet they thought they were pretending to be on. Then out came the books and they talked about several planets. Then the talking went to how big the earth was in comparison to the sun. They wanted to know what a light year was so they could find out how far the sun was from the earth. How long is a light year? Kai started trying to count how long it was between turning on the light and the light being on. We had to look some things up online, since the book didn't answer all the questions. Did you know it only takes a bit over 8 minutes for the sunlight to get to the earth? Then they were trying to figure out what would happen first if the sun suddenly stopped shining: what would be our demise. Would we get cold? Would we starve? Would we be able to sustain ourselves with what little energy we can produce without the sun? Great questions! The play did get to happier themes again, and they were animals and people and they had great adventures. Jeff is really good at this kind of game, so he's the one they love to play it with.

So, jump past the sleeping part and we arrive at this morning. Kai watched his x-mas gift dvd for the first time! Naruto and the land of snow, I think it is. I was able to watch most of it with him and Kade. While it was on, other things were happening. Kade made a really cool vehicle out of Legos. He started with a wheel base and added a body and wings. Played with it for a few minutes and morphed it into a vehicle with a body, wings and 'pipes'. After a few more minutes he changed it completely into a more streamlined flying vehicle with a slanted front, wheels and bigger wings.

By this time the movie was over. Kade was able to use the remote and check out the extras. Kai went on a quest to find the tin whistle book and the tin whistle. A few minutes later he was in the other room playing. He made it through many of the songs and exercises in the book and then just played some. His tone is getting quite good!

We found the camera next. After looking at a few pictures, they started taking pictures in turn. Then they would share what they had taken.

Now they are playing on the Wii. Naruto must be the theme today. Kade started out on his DS with a Naruto game, but now is waiting for Kai to complete 3 challenges, then he can join in on Kai's game. Negotiation at its best!

As far as the adults, we have been thinking about how we can assist on getting an unschooling conference here in 2009. A group of us started emailing each other last evening. I'm a horrible planner, but can find ways to help out. J is going full tilt with his power brain! Our group seems really motivated to get one here...so cool! Bring it on, I say. Want to come join us?!
